What if there was a secret handbook that told you everything you needed to know about management, supervision, and leadership (or at least which things really mattered)? While, regrettably, such an invaluable resource does not exist, there are ways to make sense of organizations, institutions, teams, and people that provide helpful guidance as you navigate the challenges and opportunities of library management. Join us for a day of big picture thinking, hands-on exercises, networking and experience sharing, and resource discovery focused on helping you describe, make sense of, and plan actions to address the many management challenges you encounter as you work to make a difference in your organization and the communities it serves. In addition to a general overview of relevant knowledge, skills, and concepts in management, discussions and activities will cover topics such as: Is this normal or is it just me? (making sense of new management situations); Strategic thinking for everyone (and why it actually matters for getting things done); How to ignore your boss and have them thank you for it later (managing up and down); and “But we can't do that.” (Change-oriented project management and leadership).
Boxed Lunch will be served from 12:00 to 1:00.
